Marketing and Depth Work: Creating a Cult Following

People Don’t Buy Products. They Buy Identity.

In our Construct Key, we teach that the Construct is the foundational architecture of the mind. It’s how your clients make meaning of reality. One of the 7 Influence Points we work with is Identity—a deeply rooted construct that shapes not only what people do, but why they do it.

When you understand the identity structure your client is operating from, you begin to uncover their Unique Buyer Strategy—the internal logic that guides how they engage, what they desire, and what creates resonance. Once you do this, you don’t just gain a customer—you cultivate a raving fan.

Identity: The Anchor of Meaning

The most powerful force in the human condition is the drive to stay consistent with one’s identity. Not because of ego—but because of meaning. The mind requires clarity, and clarity needs perspective. Perspective demands a point of reference.

“I am here. That must be there.”
This is how meaning is born. Identity is the mind’s first point of orientation—its origin story.

From Robbins to Jung to the Spirit Wheel

While training under Tony Robbins, I was taught repeatedly: Identity is the strongest force in human psychology. Two decades of depth work confirmed this truth.

As I continued my research, I found deep resonance between Robbins’ Six Human Needs, Jung’s psychology of the unconscious, and Robert Moore’s archetypal model. Eventually, I integrated these frameworks into the Spirit Wheel of Depth Work, aligning needs, archetypes, and identity constructs.

What I discovered is that most marketing doesn't fail because of poor copy. It fails because it doesn’t speak to the constructs the buyer is living inside of.

What Are Archetypes?

Archetypes are deeply rooted meaning structures shared across all of humanity. They sit beneath the conscious mind and shape how we see, feel, and act. When one is activated, it filters every experience through its lens.

When you understand the archetypal need your client is trying to fulfill, you gain access to the emotional and narrative logic behind their choices.

Every decision your client makes is an attempt to meet a need.
Every need operates through an archetype.

Below are the Seven Core Archetypes, paired with their associated needs. These are the keys to understanding and influencing identity-driven behavior.

πŸ›‘οΈ WarriorNeed: Certainty / Security

The Warrior sets boundaries and ensures safety. Actions from this archetype are rooted in survival, comfort, and predictability.

“I want something that makes me feel safe.”
“We’re looking for a reliable vehicle.”

❀️ LoverNeed: Connection

Connection is at the heart of the Lover archetype. These clients long for belonging, intimacy, or shared experience.

“I wanted something I could share with my family.”
“I just wanted to feel understood.”

πŸ‘‘ SovereignNeed: Significance

The Sovereign desires to stand out, to lead, and to be seen as unique or valuable. This is the need to feel important and respected.

“I wanted to feel like I mattered.”
“I’m looking for something that makes me feel special.”

🎩 Magician / AdventurerNeed: Variety / Uncertainty

The Magician archetype seeks novelty and surprise. They are driven by curiosity, experimentation, and expansion into the unknown.

“I wanted to experience something new.”
“I needed to shake things up.”

🌿 Sacred Mother Need: Contribution

The Sacred Mother archetype is fueled by contribution. This is the selfless giver who wants to help, support, and uplift others. A mother's body automatically begins to contribute to the life of her baby. Without any thought into whether the baby will be "worth it." The worth exists in the feeling of love that contribution fuels.

“I wanted to give back.”
“This helps me help others.”

πŸ’‘ GeniusNeed: Growth

The Genius archetype is drawn to mastery and development. These clients want to get better, improve, or stretch their capacity.

“I wear these out—I use them constantly.”
“Every time I engage, I learn something new.”

🦸 HeroNeed: Purpose (Axis Mundi)

We are all the hero of our own story. This archetype represents the need for purpose, meaning, and narrative cohesion.

“I just want something that gives my life meaning.”
“This product helps me conquer [insert internal dragon].”

Why This Matters in Marketing

Most marketers are selling solutions to surface problems.
Depth marketers speak to the story behind the purchase.

They don’t just identify pain points—they uncover the constructs their clients are living inside of. They learn how to speak in archetype, map the identity being expressed, and help clients step into a better version of themselves through what they’re buying.

Mastery-Level Influence Starts with Identity

Learning to guide your clients at the identity level is a form of meaning mastery. It’s how influence becomes ethical, powerful, and transformational.

When you know what need they are meeting,
and what archetype is driving it,
you can meet them where they are and invite them forward.
